The Olympic Winter Games will take place again next year. Cross-country skiing superstar Therese Johaug will not be there, as she now announced.

The cross-country skiing queen thanks: Therese Johaug from Norway ends her successful career and thus refrains from winning further medals next year at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy. The 36-year-old announced this on Monday on Instagram.

“After the season was over, I decided not to rely on the Olympic Games,” wrote Johaug, who won four times in her career at Olympics and won 14 World Cup titles: “It was an adventure to be in a team again this winter, but even if I still love skiing, I have a big need for more time with the family.”

The Norwegian royal family, the association and her husband Nils Jakob Hoff had recently hoped that Johaug will tackle their fourth winter games. After her temporary interruption of career and the baby break, the extraordinary athlete returned to the last season, but missed the hoped-for victory in gold at the home world championship in Trondheim. In addition to three silver, she also won a bronze medal.

After that, Johaug had announced that she was “99 percent” sure that she would stop. Later she showed that one last season was still possible – but finally decided against it.

“I would like to thank everyone who supported me in my comeback,” wrote Johaug. A very “special thank you” of their better half “Hoff:” Without you that would not have been possible. “
