Yesterday, the police in Assen searched about eighty people preventively. One knife was found and seized in that promotion.
Among other things, the Koopmansplein, Rolderstraat and Stationsplein were searched. The reason is that it has been restless in the city lately. Last Monday, for example, there was another stabbing in the city center. A 21-year-old Assenaar was injured. Two young men (18 and 20) from Ter Apel and Assen were arrested.
According to the police, groups of young people are “sometimes present in a nasty way” in the city. That would affect the sense of safety of residents and visitors.
The police are allowed to search preventively because the city center of Assen has previously been designated as a so -called security risk area. In the coming period, preventively searches will be made in Assen more often.
