In contrast, Saarbrücken’s 19 -year waiting time could be extended to the next second division season. “We imagined something else”, said FCS captain Manuel Zeitz of the sports show. “Braunschweig was just superior to us today. In the end we can be happy that it stayed 2-0.”

A half to forget

Braunschweig had started the duel between two Bundesliga founding members very safety-oriented. After two disappointing defeats and the dismissal of head coach Daniel Schering, his former assistant coach Pfitzer probably wanted to avoid a false start.

Saarbrücken had the euphoria from the last match day in the back when the relegation was relegated, but it was also not a risk. “Both were a bit afraid of making a mistake,” Saarbrücken’s coach Alois Schwartz said.

The 15,000 spectators saw a fairly boring first half in the sold -out Ludwig Spark Stadium. In the absence of a better highlight, a false shot from Saarbrücken’s goalkeeper Kai Brünker (16th) and a flat cross from Braunschweig Robin Krauße mentioned – Captain Ermin Bicakcic narrowly missed (42.).

“We tried to just keep our game and come into play through second balls”, So Braunschweig’s Tempelmann. “We succeeded even better in the second half.”

Tempelmann uses rebound

After the break it went quickly: at a counterattack Braunschweig Christian Conteh circled the ball with the outside of the outside of Philippe. The striker failed free -standing on goalkeeper Phillip Mentzel, but the margin was sitting. Tempelmann scored from 18 meters across the defense lawyer to the Eintracht lead.

The game had momentum, Saarbrücken had to come, missed the goal in the person of Kasim Rabihic (57th). Braunschweig got more rooms and used them for the second goal.

Braunschweig is going

Again Conteh, the interim coach Pfitzer gave a chance in the starting eleven, the starting point with a flank run over the left side. With a little luck, his flat cross reached the second post in Rittmüller – and he hit the ball precisely into the left corner. An unlikely goal scorer, in the previously 84 second division games, the right -back had never met.

With the two-goal lead in the back, Braunschweig controlled the action from then on, a class difference was clearly recognizable. The second division also remained dangerous, for example with two head balls from Bicakcic (71.) and several shots from Tempelmann.

Saarbrücken made too many mistakes in his attempts to attack and now has to hope for a little miracle in the second leg on Tuesday. Trainer Schwartz remained optimistic: “We have half -time now, it is 0: 2 and everything has already been shot. The team has already shown a different face and we have nothing to lose now.
