Darter Michael van Gerwen from Vlijmen was unable to qualify for the final round of the Premier League. The triple world champion immediately lost in the quarterfinals to his competitor Nathan Aspinall: it became 6-2.
Only a final victory in Sheffield might have led to a place in the final round for 36-year-old Van Gerwen. Aspinall was much better at taking advantage of his chances and quickly went to a 4-1 lead. That margin no longer handed over the Englishman.
For Van Gerwen it is only the second time that he misses the final round. Earlier that happened to him in 2020. De Brabander managed to win the Premier League seven times so far. That makes him a record holder.
