On Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 June, many world leaders settle in The Hague for the NATO summit. Even though the meeting is not in Zoetermeer, we are also experiencing traffic nuisance from the meeting here.

To guarantee the safety of the prominent figures Rijkswaterstaat (temporary and partial) closures in (fast) roads, entrances and exits, viaducts and tunnels. This happens on the roads A5, A4, A44 and N44.

As a result, from Sunday afternoon, June 22 to Thursday, June 26, there is a serious nuisance on those roads. But travelers from our city towards the Randstad must also take diversions into account.

Consequences for Zoetermeer

Although Zoetermeer itself does not fall directly within the deposited areas, residents can still suffer from the measures. What motorists will notice from the NATO summit from Zoetermeer is the following.

A5: Between the Raasdorp (A9) junction and the De Hoek (A4) junction, the road in both directions is closed from Sunday afternoon, June 22 to Friday morning 27 June.

A4: Two lanes are close between the Hoek and Burgerveen junction in the direction of The Hague. This lasts from Sunday afternoon, June 22 to Friday morning 27 June. The Den Ruygen Hoek on the A4 towards The Hague is also closed. You cannot stand here with your vehicle in the parking lot.

A44/N44: From Sunday evening, June 22 to Friday morning 27 June, the A44 between Burgerveen and Wassenaar junction is closed. The N44 between The Hague and the Rozenweg in Wassenaar is closed in both directions. The A44/N44 towards Amsterdam was also closed on Wednesday afternoon and evening 25 June.

N434: The N434 is closed in both directions on Wednesday afternoon and evening 25 June.

The largest traffic is expected during the following periods:

  • Monday afternoon and evening (23 June): raised traffic due to closures and diversions.
  • Tuesday morning (24 June): possible delays due to increased traffic.
  • Wednesday afternoon and evening (25 June): serious traffic nuisance due to closures and diversions.

From A to Better

Rijkswaterstaat calls on road users to avoid the Randstad as much as possible from Monday 23 to Thursday 26 June. If you still have to get on the road: consult the Website VananaarBeterkeep an eye on the current traffic information and follow the diversion routes via the signs above and along the roads. Take into account traffic nuisance and longer travel times.

Trains run normal

Do you want to go from Zoetermeer to Schiphol or do you travel home one of these days from the airport? Then it might be more convenient to take the train, because they drive according to the normal timetable. It can be a lot busier than normal, because you are probably not the only one who then travels by train.
