At the weekend there is one of the classics of the Formula 1 calendar: the Grand Prix in the streets of Monte Carlo. Since the races there have been repeatedly unspectacular in the past, one wants to help with a special regulation this year. Nico Hülkenberg is looking forward to the unknown adventure.
Formula 1 in Monaco – this is glamor, these are beautiful pictures and spectacular qualifying on Saturday. However, if there are no weather caps on Sundays, the races in the principality are usually the same as a procession.
So the scales of Monaco fans increasingly tended to the critics. This year, a special rule should only provide more excitement for the race in Monte Carlo.
Instead of a stop as usual, the drivers have to go to the box twice to change the tire on Sunday. Here, too, there are already critics: drivers could stop in the first two rounds – it is threatening chaos.
Germany’s only Formula 1 driver sees far less critical in the current starting line-up: “I am excited to see whether it will ignite,” said Nico Hülkenberg, who was basically open to “trying new things”. However, he did not want to dare a forecast yet.
Formula 1: Hülkenberg does not want to hand in a Monaco forecast
“I am very practical on the road: it does not help to discuss beforehand. We will then talk about whether it was a success or not,” said the clean pilot. “It definitely brings another variable into play. It can run for you or totally against you.”
Since his bolide is probably not able to drive into the points on his own, Hülkenberg’s openness is not surprised.
Basically, the Emmericher is more of a conservative side when it comes to the Monaco GP: “I was not basically of the opinion that something had to happen. Monaco has always been like that, overtaking has always been difficult.”
For him, the streets on the Cote d’Azur are still something special: “You have to go out of the comfort zone here, play with the limits and the guardrails. You really have to work here. We hardly have a moment when the steering wheel is straight.”
