The club World Cup in the USA apparently brings Borussia Dortmund into the bredouille. Because the contract with a player ends in the middle of the tournament.
The BVB has apparently offered the English Association Chelsea a curious contract extension for 21-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka. The midfielder was actually loaned by the British until June 30th. However, the end of the loan falls in the middle of the period of the club World Cup in the United States, which takes place between June 14 and July 13th.
As the “Bild” reports, the Dortmunders are said to have offered to extend the contract by 14 days-which would be a novelty in Bundesliga history. Alternatively, Chukwuemeka could not travel along or would have to leave the tournament prematurely.
Apparently coach Niko Kovač absolutely wants the Englishman at the club World Cup. It is actually clear that the player will leave the club with Nigerian roots. The BVB had not extended the loan agreement and also not used the option to buy it for around 35 million euros.
Chukwuemeka is considered a great talent, but he was often injured and the BVB should ultimately have been too high. Two weeks ago it was discussed that he could possibly be exchanged with Jamie Gitten’s willing to move. But this seems to have smashed.
