Tottenham Hotspur has forgotten a bad Premier League season and won the title in the Europa League. Manchester United was too harmless, and the Spurs are now allowed to play the premier class. United was also responsible for the goal of the evening – Luke Shaw made a fatal own goal in the 41st minute.
The first surprise had already existed before the game. Trace coach Verzecoglou waived his captain Heung-Min Son, apparently the regeneration time after his foot injury was not long enough, although Son had been on the pitch for 73 minutes last Friday at 0-2 against Aston Villa. Instead, Postecoglou relied on Richarlison, who was immediately an asset in the spectacular stadium of San Mamés in Bilbao.
Zwayer lets the game run well
In general, the game did not need a long start -up phase, both teams did not lose time with midfielder, but quickly targeted the opposing penalty area. Also in the duels there was a typical English intensity that referees Felix Zwayer, fortunately, did not judge Bundesliga standards that he largely let the game run.
What was missing, however, were clearly played out. After a mistake by Manunited-Goldie Harry Maguire in the 15th minute, Johnson played the cross pass on Richarlison too imprecise in the penalty area, shortly afterwards Amad Diallo just put an inclined shot past the left post.
Hardly any chances and then a slapstick goal
There was a box-to-box game. The duels became increasingly harder, the quality of the offensive campaigns, on the other hand, remained reasonable for the table of both teams in the Premier League: 16th place against 17th place, worse than the two duels this season were actually only the three relegations. At the break, the value of the expected gates on both teams was 0.21 – and yet it was 1-0 for the Spurs.
However, the origin had a slapstick character. Four minutes before the break, Pape Sarr flanked sharply from the left outer lane, at the five -meter room Brennan Johnson took a determined step towards the ball, but only brought about an accident. The ball even went away from the goal, but clapped the hand of United defender Shaw, who presented his keeper André Onana with an insoluble problem.
Led three times 1-0, won three times
From a purely season-statistical point of view, the game was already decided. Tottenham had scored the first goal in both Premier League duels and in the league cup-and then won all three games. United had not been able to prove a gripy “plan B” in these games, and that evening there was also impulses from the once great hope Rúben Amorim.
Instead, Tottenham had the chance of the preliminary decision after an hour. But Dominic Solanke stumbled the ball after a good pass from Destiny Udogie, instead of exposing freely on toana after a good pass from Destiny Udogie.
Graduate rescue act by van de ven
Amorim still didn’t react, but Tottenham himself suddenly caused high tension. After almost 70 minutes, Gugers goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario only slipped a high ball centrally towards the penalty point, where Rasmus Hojlund reacted quickly and targeted the empty gate. Vicario, who had been disabled by his own man, but still complained to Zwayer, was beaten. But ex-Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven flew out of the depth of the penalty area and clarified the ball in front of the line with an artistic flight insert.
Afterwards Amorim also woke up and brought fresh staff with Joshua Zirksee and Alejandro Garnacho, without increasing the risk – also two offensive players from the square with Hojlund and Mason Mount. But Garnacho was more dangerous after three minutes than Mount in the 70 minutes earlier: Vicario was just able to steer his full -time rash to the corner. After that pushed and pressed United, and also got seven minutes of stoppage time. But Tottenham defended outstandingly until the 97th minute. Then Shaw came completely free to the header – but Vicario held the ball and thus the victory for the Spurs.
Son celebrates his first title – Werner is also happy
Completely dissolved, Tottenham then celebrated the first international triumph since the UEFA Cup victory 41 years ago. Heung -Min Son was allowed to cheer his first big title ever – he had come into the game in the 66th minute for Richarlison. “A desperate passion drives me” The South Korean had told before the match – despair has been history since this evening.
Incidentally, Timo Werner, who had still had five missions in the group phase, was among the celebrations of the Spurs. The Leipzig loan was then no longer reported from the co-phase of Tottenham and was sitting in the stands-but that did not detract from his mood at the award ceremony.
Son, Danso and van de Ven enthusiastically
“It’s an outstanding feeling. What we did today is sensational”said Trace defender Kevin Danso, who had played for FC Augsburg and Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany, at RTL. “It was enough and we are incredible.” Van de Ven praised the approximately 20,000 trace fans: “They all deserved a medal here. In the end we had to defend very hard, but that we did very well.” Son cheered: “I am the happiest person in the world today. The team showed character, I can only thank everyone.”
