Ralf Becker knows the north well: the 54-year-old has already worked in various functions. In the future he will work as a sports director at Hannover 96.

The former HSV sports director Ralf Becker takes over the post of sports director at Hannover 96. The 54-year-old receives a contract until June 30, 2027, the second division reported. This step had already emerged in the past few days. Becker is to relieve Marcus Mann, who has been in office since March.

“Ralf worked in different roles – in the offspring, in the planning of the squad, also in a higher -level function, he is a trained football teacher. He now brings this experience with us. It is known that we were not very broad in his subject areas in the past,” said Mann.

Becker will act alongside chief scout Maximilian Lüftl and report directly to sports managing director Mann. His tasks include the squad planning and the support of the transition area between young people and professionals.

After the end of coach André Breitenreiter shortly before the end of the season, assistant Lars Barlemann took over. Despite his good record of eight points in four games, the commitment of a new head coach is imminent.

Becker is no stranger in northern Germany. From 2016 to 2018 he was a sports director at Holstein Kiel, then sports director at Hamburger SV for a year. Most recently, from 2020 to 2024 he worked as a sports manager at Dynamo Dresden. As a player, the Leonberger native was under contract with Bayer Leverkusen, FC St. Pauli, Stuttgart Kickers and Karlsruher SC.
