When victory in the “final”
Who would threaten Germany in the next round

Germany only comes to the quarter-finals with one win at the ice hockey World Cup. The motto applies against Denmark: everything or nothing.
For a long time, Germany was not part of the top of the world in ice hockey. Between 2011 and 2018, 7th place was the best placement at a World Cup. 7th place has been the worst placement for the DEB selection since 2019. In 2021 it was enough for the semi -finals, in 2023 even for the final. This year it could not be enough for the quarter -finals for the first time in seven years.
A game day before the end of the group phase is only fifth, tied with Denmark in fourth place. On Tuesday evening there is a direct duel (from 8:20 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online). Captain Moritz Seider demanded “the best performance in the tournament” from his teammates. “There are no more excuses,” emphasized the man from the Detroit Red Wings. “We have to be ready for the biggest game of the group phase.”
Marcel Noebels from the Eisbären Berlin formulated similarly. “We play for everything,” said the attacker. “We have to be freezing cold. We currently lack the lightness. We don’t have to do ten things, one would be enough,” he complained. The good start with three wins from three games followed three significant defeats. The crash end of 0: 5 against the Czech on yesterday’s Monday was the low point. What encourages: In the world rankings, Germany (eighth place) stands in front of the Danes (eleventh place). So there are opportunities for the trend reversal.
More than fourth place would not be possible. The Czech Republic, Switzerland and the USA have too much lead. Germany would therefore meet the best team in group A in a possible quarter -finals. This is currently Sweden, who has won all six games so far and has an impressive goal difference of 25: 3.
The other possible opponent would be Canada, who challenges those Sweden for the game of Germany on Tuesday evening. Both teams would be clearly favored against the DEB selection.
In order to be able to challenge Canada or Sweden, Germany must first pass the Danes. And they still have an ace their sleeves. NHL star Nikolaj Ehlers from the Winnipeg Jets had opened himself after his team in the NHL playoffs to Herning and should be on the ice in the evening.
