Former world number one Angelique Kerber leads the squad of the German Tennis Association (DTB) for the qualifying duel in the Billie Jean King Cup in Kazakhstan.
The 34-year-old three-time Grand Slam winner should make it to the finals on April 15 and 16 in Nur-Sultan together with Andrea Petkovic, Laura Siegemund, Anna-Lena Friedsam and Jule Niemeier.
“Angelique and Andrea have consistently delivered good performances on the tour for years and have regularly led the DTB team. If the two can be there, it is clear that they will be nominated,” said team captain Rainer Schüttler.
The qualifying round will determine eight of the last twelve teams competing at the finals in November. The defending champions from Russia are not allowed to participate due to the sanctions imposed by the tennis world association ITF.
