The 69th Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel was a triumph for JJ with his dramatic pop opera “Wasted Love”. Austria got victory and finally fought an exciting head-to-head race with Israel and Estonia. But where there is a winner, there are also those who disappoint the way home. And for some countries, the ESC was particularly bitter in Basel, where the competition took place this year.
San Marino, always tried, but rarely successful, ended up in the last place. With only 27 points, the result is particularly hard. It was hardly surprising that the small state could not find the connection to the musical trends in Europe again – but the disappointment was still felt. Also at the bottom of the table: Iceland with 33 points and Spain with only 37 points. The jury awarded 27 points for the latter, with Albania being the most generous with 12 points. The audience only contributed 10 points. The discrepancy between the elaborate staging and the musical content could have led to this result.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel gave everything
The Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, which was praised for its precise organization and the impressive stage with 3D effects, has done its best to put all participating countries in the best light.
Luxembourg, which has only been back in the competition since 2024 after decades, has only reached 47 points-just as many as Denmark, which was previously considered a reliable ESC mid-class player. Portugal (50 points) and Armenia (72 points) were also among the underperformers.
This is how Germany cut off
Germany achieved a place in midfield with 151 points (15th place) – for many a little comeback, but no reason to celebrate. Germany was represented by the duo Abor & Tynna with the song “Baller”. Despite an energetic performance and modern production, the contribution only received 33 points. The jury was reluctant, and the audience also missed only a few points. The song may lack originality or emotional depth to stand out from the competition. After all, there were twelve points from Ukraine and the Czech Republic as a small consolation.
