The change of the sports moderator to the public broadcaster caused a sensation on Wednesday. In another area, however, the ARD has so far been covered.
He is the new face of the most traditional sports show on German television: Alexander Schlüter will moderate the legendary “Sportschau” in the ARD from the coming season. This was announced by the public service broadcaster on Wednesday. Schlüter comes to the first from the Amazon Prime streaming service, reported there primarily about the Champions League. Before that, he worked for the Pay TV giant DAZN for eight years, also there in the area of the broadcaster’s football reporting.
At the “Sportschau”, Schlüter will now complement the existing team with long -time moderator Alexander Bommes. Bommes itself will gradually withdraw from the moderation of the show. In addition to Schlüter, the two moderators Esther Sedlaczek and Lea Wagner, daughter of the former Premier League coach David Wagner, also have long-term contracts until 2029.
But what do the moderators of the “Sportschau” actually earn? The remuneration of the director of the individual ARD institutions can be viewed publicly, as are the remuneration tables for selected professional groups. When it comes to their moderators, both ARD and ZDF have always referred to “confidentiality”.
At least there was information on the media request: In the 2022/2023 season, the ARD spent a total of 1.99 million euros for 17 experts (including ex-international Bastian Schweinsteiger), the 13 moderators cost 1.91 million euros. On average, the moderators earned around 147,000 euros, while the experts went home with an average of 117,000 euros.
So possible that Schlüter’s content is in a similar framework. A request from T-Online to ARD remained unanswered on Wednesday evening.
