After changing from the 400 to 800 meters, athlete Alica Schmidt will soon want to set a first exclamation mark. In June, however, she has to prevail against her training colleagues when she started your season.

Alica Schmidt confirmed her participation in the Golden Oval in Dresden (June 1). The 26-year-old brings her training colleagues Majie Kolberg and Eveliina Mätänen with him. The trio starts at the 800 meters. The reigning German indoor champion Jana Becker is also there.

“For me it will be the start of the season, with the whole training group. So it will certainly be cool and I’m looking forward to it!”, Schmidt is quoted by the German Athletics Association (DLV). Previously, the training group is traveling in the Pyrenees in the altitude training camp.

For Schmidt, the main thing is to gain important competition experience in the new discipline. After the Paris Olympic Games, she had switched from the 400 meters to twice the distance. In the past indoor season, she had to struggle with the changeover, her current best time is 2: 05.57 minutes.

Kolberg is looking forward to “top -class competitions”

For Kolberg, Germany’s fastest 800-meter runner, the race in Dresden will be the second in this year’s open-air season. The 25-year-old previously started in Zagreb at the end of May.

Last year she caused a sensation with top services at the European Championship in Rome and at the Paris Olympic Games. She cracked the magical two -minute mark several times. In Paris it was enough for the semi -finals thanks to a best time of 1: 58.82 minutes.

Now the first tests for Kolberg are also pending in the new season. “It is always great for us to have top -class competitions in Germany, which includes the golden oval as well as the IstAF in Berlin. I have not yet started with both, so I’m looking forward to being part of it in Dresden,” said the runner.
