The Baskets Oldenburg prevailed on Tuesday in the play-ins of the basketball Bundesliga at home with 95:83 (45:45) against the Rostock Seawolves and are therefore still in the race for the last play-off place. For Rostock, the season is over due to the defeat.

Oldenburg meets the loser of the duel Alba Berlin (seventh) against cup winner MBC (eight) on Thursday (8 p.m.), which takes place this evening in the capital. The baskets have to compete away. The two teams then play the quarter-final opponent of main round winner Bayern Munich in a game. The winner of the duel between Berlin and the MBC meets the second Ulm in the play-offs.

Löwen Braunschweig start the play-offs on Sunday

From the quarter -finals, which starts next weekend, there are “Best of Five” series – three wins are necessary for progress. The third -placed Löwen Braunschweig will deal with the Würzburg Baskets on Sunday (4.30 p.m.) and initially have home rights.

Oldenburg had only qualified in the main round with an outstanding final sprint for the play-ins. At the end of April, the season for the Baskets was already over, but then four victories followed in the remaining four games and a little luck at the end of the other games on the last match day.

Baskets fight twice

In the northern German play-in-duel in front of 6,200 spectators, the guests moved to 15: 5 (5th) after a balanced start. Oldenburg did not get under control in the first quarter of Rostock Bryce Hamilton. The American shooting Guard almost scored at will and had a large proportion of the 27:21 lead of the Mecklenburger after the first quarter.

The Lower Saxony then started the second quarter and found the connection with the 27:28. But the Seawolves responded excellently and immediately settled back to 36:27 (15th). Baskets coach Mladen drijencic reacted and took a break. And the measure went on: Oldenburg was then in the flow. Justin Jaworski made the hosts 39:38. At the break, everything was open with a 45:45.

Hamilton and Jaworski outstanding

Oldenburg came out of the cabin strongly and quickly settled to 53:45. After the third quarter, the Lower Saxony were in the lead with 68:58. The team of Seawolves head coach head coach Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz stayed tuned – especially thanks to Hamilton. He reduced to 69:77 by three – the 24 -year -old already had 40 (!) Points in his account in the 35th minute.

The Seawolves tried everything again in the final phase. But Oldenburg, driven by the same outstanding Jaworski (40 points), could not take the victory and the second duel in the Play-ins. Hamilton had scored 45 points at the end of the game.
