Apparently bad news for Bayer Leverkusen in advertising around CESC Fàbregas. As transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports, Como in 1907 confirmed on Monday that the association wants to continue with the trainer. Even the 38-year-old was never about to leave the club. According to reports, there was a meeting with the Bayer bosses who are looking for a successor to Xabi Alonso.
Most recently, the ex-professional had fueled a possible change as a coach to the Bundesliga with cryptic statements. “What also happens, I will always be grateful to the club for what it gave me. I am very proud of what was built around Como. I want to leave a legacy when I go away. The one who comes after me will find a strong club,” said Fàbregas after a 3-1 win against Cagliari. When asked whether this was already a farewell speech, he replied: “No, no, I’ve always said that.”
According to the “picture”, however, an engagement is not completely off the table. RB Leipzig is still hoping for the 2010 world champion and two -time European champions. The Spaniard came to Como as a player in 2022 as a player at the time and took over the team as head coach after the first division climb in the summer of 2024. So far there is a point cut of 1.3 in 37 games.
Two match days before the end, Como ranks as one of the surprise teams of Serie A to ten in the table and thus in the upper half of the classification. The club recently won six games in a series and Fàbregas, which has a contract on Lake Como until 2028, was elected coach of April.
