FC Den Bosch started the play-offs with a 1-0 win over SC Cambuur. In an almost sold out stadium De Vliert, striker Konstantinos Doumtsios made the only goal of the game on Monday evening. And so the Bosschenaren took the first step towards Eredivisie, because that is what the Bossche supporters want so much. “The atmosphere was fantastic, the supporters went completely loose. This is what you play for football,” says attacker Byron Burgering.

Twenty years ago, FC Den Bosch played in the Eredivisie for the last time. In recent years, the club has been going dramatically, but this season the first period title was actually taken. FC Den Bosch then dropped to ninth place, but there is still trust within the club in a stunt in the play-offs. Certainly because there were more often surprises in recent years.

Eredivisie
The first half played FC Den Bosch as the own supporters would like. There was a fight for every ball and the attack was frequently sought. After twenty minutes, the opening goal from Doumtsios followed, which after a corner from Byron Burgering came in from the turn. From the M-Side with the fanatic supporters, it was loudly ‘We are going up ‘ Sung, with which they go on a promotion to the Eredivisie.

Cambuur was disappointing. The number three of the Kitchen Champion Division got a big chance in the 42nd minute. Midfielder Nicky Souren appeared freely for Pepijn van de Merbel, but the Bossche goalkeeper brought salvation. In the last minutes of the first half, both teams still had a big chance, but the 1-0 remained on the scoreboard.

It really went wild in the last twenty minutes. First it was the Bossche substitute Denzel Kuijpers who appeared free for the goal, but he did not get the ball at the last minute. Shortly thereafter another substitute, Sheddy Barglan, shot on the Frisian keeper Thijs Jansen. Then it was Wiebe Kooistra with two big chances for Cambuur. Van de Merbel showed himself a reliable goalie: he kept his goal clean.

The last minutes were no longer of good football and the Bosschenaren crossed the line with a lot of battle.

“We are a real power team.”

It ‘We are going up’ Defender Rik Mulders thought the supporters too premature. “But we won 1-0, we had signed for that in advance. We are not a team with the best field game or a big field predominance, but a real one power team. The atmosphere was great, but that will be on Friday in Leeuwarden too. Our starting position is not wrong, but we have to bring at least the same. Then we can get very far. “

Rik was emotional before the start of the game. “We got to see videos of loved ones. My father, mother, sister and girlfriend were in the picture with me. I could turn the emotions into motivation.”

Attacker Byron Burgering enjoyed the Bossche supporters. “We want to perform and win, but football is also entertainment. I sometimes looked at our supporters on the field with a slanted eye, it was enjoyment.”

According to the left leg, it is only now resting and the second half starts on Friday in Leeuwarden. FC Den Bosch is certainly not a chance of these play-offs. “I think NAC thought that last year, but they were promoted. Although I am not at all busy with previous years. We focus on our own game and then we will see what will happen.”

The return will take place next Friday, May 16 at 8 p.m. in Leeuwarden. The winner of the diptych will play against the winner of Telstar and ADO The Hague on 20 and 23 May. The final is on 29 May and 1 June.
