The league is expanded from twelve to 14 clubs, while the traditional club Turbine Potsdam relegates to the 2nd Bundesliga again, three license associations are added with 1. FC Nürnberg, Union Berlin and HSV. In addition, there are many coaching changes and increasing competition for players.

Association and associations hope that the expansion hopes that a new dynamic for the 1st Bundesliga, regardless of how the EM summer runs from a German perspective. The calculation seems simple: two other clubs in the league mean more game days that can be marketed and a play rhythm with fewer interruptions in the calendar for the non -internationally playing clubs. Due to the license clubs with their fan scenes, there should also be further growth in the stadiums and the television audience.

Voice At Union Berlin

The ascended clubs arouse a different amount of interest: Union Berlin has already moved to the 2nd Bundesliga to the Bundesliga at the old forester’s shop and has been able to create a correct spirit of optimism: 6,100 people have so far been on average the games of this season. No first division club has a better cut if you calculate the so-called highlight games, in each of which several ten thousand went to one game.

In Nuremberg and Hamburg, only a few hundred people came to the games in the 2nd Bundesliga, which took place on small facilities. After the climb, both are expected to move into the large arenas because of the license requirements, for the HSV this is already certain, and other solutions are currently being considered in Nuremberg. After the last climb, the FCN reached an average of 1,947 viewers in the Max Morlock Stadium and thus ranked in the lower midfield of the league.

problem Permeability To the 2nd Bundesliga

A counter argument for the expansion is the performance gradient. If you look at the final tables of the past few years, the bottom of the table, especially for years, had no real chance of staying in the league for years. In addition, there have been no season since 2006/07, in which both promotion teams were able to stay in the Bundesliga. During this time, the displacement of the clubs without connecting to a license association can also be observed, for the time being, the SGS Essen is the last remaining first division club of this kind.

Even more license clubs are pushing up

Further large clubs from the lower leagues are pushing up: BVB rises to the Regionalliga West, Mainz 05 and VfB Stuttgart are already knocking on the door to the 2nd league. The strategies are different: some clubs rely on their own offspring, others get players from higher leagues.

Budget planning depends largely on the superordinate association. How different the priorities are can be seen at the Bundesliga promoters Union and Nuremberg. At Union Berlin the “The professionalization of women’s football ” Wia trainer Ailien Poese told in an interview with ‘T-Online’.

It sounds different in Nuremberg. Nuremberg’s sporting director Osman Cankaya told the BR that his team had the lowest budget of the three ascending clubs, in the first division it will probably only be about relegation for the Nuremberg women.

Growing competition for players

There are not yet many officially communicated new additions to the three clubs. The 23-year-old Sanja Homann from second division SC Sand joins the Nuremberg women. Union drew attention to himself with the commitment of Eileen Campbell from SC Freiburg. The 24-year-old Austrian already has first division experience.

Apart from Turbine Potsdam, Freiburg, together with Wolfsburg and Leipzig, is facing the greatest upheaval, but also in Frankfurt, Hoffenheim and Cologne, several regular players said goodbye. There is a new dynamic on the transfer market because more and more clubs compete for the same pool of players.

This can have different effects: rising salaries, an even younger league and improvement in young talent work, more transfers from international players. There are similar discussions in the USA with regard to the expansion of the NWSL, which markets offensive as the most sporty league in the world.
