From the New Blues Festival to the Linedance World Cup and the Dutch Open Darts. Large events are regularly held in De Bonte Wever. The latter organization already hoped that the complex in Assen would expand, because the largest darts event in the world ran into its limits.
“With the arrival of the new event location, existing events can continue to grow and opportunities are also created for many new activities. Think of trade fairs, large -scale concerts, festivals and international congresses,” says De Ruiter.
There are also extra hotel rooms. “During multi -day congresses and events we desperately need them,” the director knows. “Sometimes there is the question of up to a thousand beds, we don’t have that now. Think of the Dutch Open Darts with 8,000 guests a day.”
In addition to the business events, De Bonte Wever also continues to focus on the private market. De Ruiter: “Everyone is welcome, from a children’s party to major events.”
De Bonte Wever has been expanded twice before. In 2010 the new hotel opened at Stadsbroek, and a considerable expansion was started in 2018. Then there were a new conference and meeting center, an enlarged entertainment center, extra recreational space and new restaurants.
Alderman Martin Rasker of the municipality of Assen sees an impulse for the leisure economy of Assen in the expansion plans. “With more hotel rooms, extra rooms and a new event location, we strengthen our position as a hospitable and attractive city for visitors and companies. It increases the national fame of Assen and stimulates our local economy. “
In the coming period, De Ruiter will have the plans work out further, after which permits will be applied for.
