World champion Mario Götze leads Eindhoven to the quarter-finals

PSV Eindhoven has reached the Quarterfinals of the Conference League. The team of the former Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt showed an intoxicating performance – also thanks to Mario Götze.

Led by the strong ex-world champion Mario Götze, the Dutch first division club PSV Eindhoven has made it into the quarter-finals of the Conference League. The former Bundesliga professional prepared the opening goal in the 4-0 (2-0) win at FC Copenhagen and also scored the 2-0. Eindhoven dominated the entire game on Thursday and, like in the first leg (4-4), scored four goals.

Götze prepared Eran Zahavi for the lead in the 10th minute. His goal (38′) shortly before the break benefited from the preparatory work of ex-Bundesliga professional Philipp Max. After the break, Zahavi scored again (79′), before Nonso Madueke (90′ + 1) marked the final score in injury time.

Barcelona in the Europa League also in the quarterfinals

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona is in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Thanks to goals from Pedri (37th minute) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (49th), the Catalans prevailed 2-1 (2-1) in the round of 16 second leg at Galatasaray Istanbul after the first leg had ended goalless. Marcao put the record Turkish champions in front in the 37th minute on Thursday.

Meanwhile, AS Monaco and former Bundesliga professionals Kevin Volland and Alexander Nübel were eliminated. After the 0:2 in the first leg, a 1:1 (0:1) against SC Braga was not enough for the Monegasques to advance.

Glasgow Rangers also advanced to the next round. The Scots lost 1:2 (0:1) against Red Star Belgrade, but had gained a good cushion with the 3:0 win in the first duel.

Also in the quarters are Bundesliga side RB Leipzig after opponents Spartak Moscow were ruled out of the competition over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
