The tension could be cut: with another match day to go, four teams had a chance to win the overall victory. Mechelen had the best starting position, but the Spurs from Kortrijk were also able to compete for the main prize when winning against Landstede Hammers.
Kortrijk started the party sharply. The defense was immediately put together, and the Dutch visitors had a hard time scoring. The Spurs benefited optimally and built an early lead: 11-4. Two consecutive three-pointed even took care of 17-6, and the belief in a stunt grew.
Especially the organized defense stood out at Kortrijk. Assistant coach Hylke van der Zweep was satisfied with that line: “A strong Defense is needed in those play-offs,” it sounded combative.
Yet it turned out not enough for the title. Mechelen won his match and thus secured the championship title. For Kortrijk, the consolation prize remains: trust and form towards the play-offs, where everything is still possible.
