Another party at the Volksparkstadion: The HSV footballers also solve the ticket for the Bundesliga.
One day after the rise of the HSV men, the club’s team of women also set a sporty exclamation mark: the DFB Cup semi-finalist secured the return to the Bundesliga with a 3: 0 against SC Freiburg II.
After goalless first half, Christin Meyer (53rd minute), Lotta Wrede (75th) and Svea Stildt (81.) scored the hits for the HSV. With now 50 points on the penultimate matchday, the third place in the table is no longer to be taken – and this is enough for promotion this season. The background is the increase in the Bundesliga from twelve to 14 clubs at the coming season.
In addition to the Hamburg women, Union Berlin and the 1st FC Nürnberg have already made the leap into the upper house. Turbine Potsdam, on the other hand, is determined as a relegation.
The HSV crowns an extraordinary season. In the DFB Cup, the team made it into the semi-finals and only lost there after extra time against the Bundesliga club Werder Bremen-in front of 57,000 spectators in the Volkspark Stadium. The north duel set up a new spectator record in women’s German club football.
The home games will also take place in the large stadium in the Bundesliga. So far, the team’s venue was 6th next to the arena.
