The Champions League dreams have burst, the Europa League participation is the highest of feelings-this annoys Leipzig boss Marcel Schäfer.
After the goalless draw in Bremen, it is clear: RB Leipzig will not be represented in the Champions League in the coming season. The Saxons no longer have a chance to reach the fourth place in the table. Managing Director Marcel Schäfer therefore went hard with his own team.
“Such a performance is not worthy of a Champions League candidate,” he said. Schäfer also emphasized that too many things were missed again that are necessary to play at the top. “I stay with it, we are right to be where we stand,” said the managing director. The coming summer described it as “sporty and economically a good challenge.”
Despite the disappointment, Schäfer also sees a way: “Because we are now changing the things we have already seen.” It is now a matter of determining and implementing the plans. The goal: to put together a “real RB team” again, says Schäfer.
Sportily, there is still a little at the game for “The Red Bulls” shortly before the end of the season: on the last day of the match, Leipzig meets VfB Stuttgart. RB has to score to at least reach the Europa League. The separation of coach Marco Rose had not previously shown the hoped -for effect.
Midfielder Christoph Baumgartner defiantly after the missed qualification for the Champions League: Then get the Europa League title, he said. The Austrian also explained to just watch during the week and not be able to play internationally, “the crappy is what there is.”
Leipzig is currently in seventh place – even participation in the Conference League would not even be secured.
