Mick Schumacher is still on the road to success in the new season of the long-distance World Cup (WEC) and has taken on a lot of momentum for the highlight of the year.

The 26-year-old celebrated third place with his Alpine team on Saturday at the SPA six-hour race, it was the second podium for the trio in a row. Most recently, Schumacher and his French teammates Frédéric Makowiecki and Jules Gounon had already ranked third in Imola.

Started from sixth place, Makowiecki in the Ardennes now made many places well in the start phase and subsequently completed his stint in second position. At the third stop, Gounon took over the tax – and a few moments later the lead.

Schumacher’s appearance began two hours before the end of the race, but no longer as a leading one: when changing the tire, the alpine fell back behind the Ferrari duo with the 36.

As a result, Schumacher moved in a close all-around between ranks two and four, after another pit stop phase of the competition he was back in the lead. However, the alpine was on another strategy, so Schumacher’s car went out in the final phase, he had to go to the box again.

As the third, he put pressure on second place again, but it was no longer enough. The victory went to Ferrari as in the previous two season races, this time Antonio Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi (both Italy) and James Calado (Great Britain) were at the forefront.

Mick Schumacher with a tailwind to Le Mans

In his second WEC year, Schumacher now travels to the absolute highlight of long-haul sports: On June 14th and 15th June, Le Mans’ 24 hours will increase, it is the fourth of eight season races.

In his debut at the classic last year, Schumacher and his team had left prematurely due to a defect.

His debut in the WEC made Pascal Wehrlein on Saturday. The Formula E World Champion jumped in the Porsche with the start number 6 at very short notice, together with the WEC world champions Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor, Wehrlein drove as ninth into the dot length.

His participation in Le Mans has been planned for a long time, but before that the German will be again fulfilling his duties in Formula E: the next race of the electrical series will increase in Tokyo next Saturday.
