An era is slowly coming to an end: After his last home game for FC Bayern, Thomas Müller stretches the master shell – and turns to the fans with an emotional speech: “I loved being the modern gladiator.”
An era ended at 8:11 p.m.: Thomas Müller left the lawn of the Munich Allianz Arena for the last time. Players and supervisors stood trellis for this special moment: that 2: 0 (1-0) against Borussia Mönchengladbach Was his last appearance in Munich and his 750th competitive game for Bayern: After 25 years, the chapter FC Bayern for Müller ends.
Emotional, but hardly tears
Anyone who thought it would be a tearful appearance, as at the time when Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben, as Honorary President Uli Hoeneß, had a tear. With a wide grin, Müller took a seat on the replacement bench.
After the game, the handover of the master shell followed – captain Manuel made Müller the lead, who was the first to stretch the shell to Munich’s sky. After that, the 13 -fold German champion went into the south curve quickly – because Müller was always a man of fans, but also for the fans.
In his farewell speech to the Munich audience, he emphasized: “I loved being the modern gladiator,” and added: “But I’m not sad, I am looking forward to what is coming – even if it won’t be half as beautiful. I love you all!
Müller celebrates with the south curve
“We footballers love the smell of grass,” Müller called the trembling Munich south curve for a master dance, he had climbed under the fishing network onto the podium of the singer. “We are very happy that we can bring you the shell again.” Together with the fans he sang “We want red and white jerseys” and other stadium strikers – “and then basta!”
The south curve paid homage to its legend with a spectacular choreography (“Everything for our colors for 25 years!”) And speech choirs. Before kick -off, Müller was honored by those responsible under thunderous applause: for flowers, picture frames and a sheep head card (“Eichel Ober”) it became almost too much for him, he called: “Let’s play!”
Twelve Championships, Record player, club legend
After a quarter of a century, Müller had not received a new contract with Bayern – the majority of them as a professional – and will leave the Munich in summer.
Müller came to FC Bayern in youth. Since his debut for the professionals in August 2008, Müller has played 496 Bundesliga, plus 161 Champions League and 67 DFB Cup games. With his 710th professional deployment on September 1, 2024 against SC Freiburg, he crowned the sole record player of the Munich in front of the goalkeeper legend Sepp Maier. He won twelve German championships, two Champions League titles and six times the DFB Cup.
