Fashion shows and war in Europe – how does that go together? Anja Gockel (53), one of the most successful designers in Germany, was faced with this question.
On Tuesday she presented her new collection for autumn/winter 2022/23 in the Hotel “Adlon” to great applause. Title: “Weltgewand

“The feeling of powerlessness that has been felt since the beginning of the Ukraine war must be overcome,” says the Mainz native to the BZ, “awareness is required! The world needs to be aware of what is happening in the country.”
The national colors of Ukraine were also the focus of attention at Thursday’s fashion brunch in their pop-up store in the hotel. Gockel (used to work for the legendary Vivienne Westwood) showed her current summer collection there. The title: “The beach lies under the asphalt”. When the designer created them, Putin’s war was still far, far away. The topic that occupied the world: Corona.

Gockel is now supporting the refugees arriving in Berlin by selling these models in the “Adlon”. It is also possible to raise awareness through donations and appeals.
The designer’s message: “We mustn’t hide in fear, but must seize the opportunity and show that we know and support.”

You have to repeat the joie de vivre that suffers from Corona and war by reflecting on what you have. Because “the beach is under the asphalt”.
