The traffic situation in the center of De Haan is being thoroughly tackled. The Nieuwe Rijksweg will be a two -way road and gets a bicycle highway next to him. This also offers opportunities to redesign the public space around the road, for example as a green square with space for heritage and village feeling.
During an earlier dialogue evening in October 2024, more than 170 inhabitants already gave suggestions about road safety, landscaping and parking options. That input has been included in the further elaboration of different scenarios.
The proposals were drawn up by a engineering office in collaboration with the Roads and Traffic Agency, the Department of Environment, the province of West Flanders and the municipality of De Haan. All comments from the information market are now analyzed. In the summer of 2025, a preferred scenario is chosen, which will be worked out in a project memorandum in the autumn.
