A planned bomb attack on a Lady Gaga concert on May 03 prevented the authorities from preventing the last minute. Brazilian investigators now report that the main suspect, Luis da Silva, was only deported from the USA in April.
Luis da Silva and a 17-year-old young person were arrested just a few hours before the free concert on the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. The event attracted over 2.1 million fans who wanted to experience Lady Gaga live. The suspects are said to have planned to ignite explosive devices near the stage and target concert goers: to start inside – including children.
LGBTQ+community as the goal of the attack
Rio Felipe Cury’s police spokesman said that the suspects had planned the attack against the LGBTQ+community. The perpetrators are said to have tried to radicalize young people via social media and to participate in violent actions with molotov cocktails and improvised explosive devices.
According to a report by the “New York Post”, the main suspect was deported from the United States. Official information for the exact reason of deportation is still pending.
Police keeps missions secret
On the day of the show, security forces carried out raids in several places to prevent the attack. For security reasons, the campaign was kept secret to panic among concert goers: to avoid inside. Lady Gaga’s team only found out about the thwarted attack on the day after the concert from the media.
The police arrested two people. The exact roles of the suspects in the stop plan are still unclear.
In the case of nationwide raids in the apartments of 15 suspects, electronic devices were confiscated. There were no references to explosive materials or weapons. According to the police spokesman, one of the suspects from Macaé called religious motifs and described Lady Gaga as the “Satanistin”.
Lady Gaga reacts to the incident
In an Instagram post, Lady Gaga thanked her fans: “Nothing could have prepared me for the feeling that I had on stage last night-the absolute joy and pride to sing for the people in Brazil. Your heart shines so brightly, your culture is so alive and special. I am incredibly grateful to have shared this historical moment with you.” Gaga’s new LP Mayhem was released on March 7th. The 14 tracks comprehensive record marks an artistic rebirth for the singer.
Your free concert stands out from the currently increasing ticket prices for live events. Lady Gaga performed at the Coachella Festival in California last month, where tickets cost up to $ 600. Madonna had also given a concert on the Copacabana beach in May-with around 1.6 million fans on site.
