Red Bull took protest against Mercedes driver George Russell. He drove too quickly in a yellow phase. The racing commissioners see it differently.

George Russell can keep his third place at Miami’s Grand Prix. Formula 1 racing management rejected an official protest from the Red Bull team. The Mercedes pilot remains in front of four-time world champion Max Verstappen, who ended the race in fourth place.

The background: Red Bull had complained after racing Russell’s behavior during a yellow phase. Kick-Sauber Pilot Gabriel Bortoleto had to park his car on the route, in Red Bull’s view, Russell should have reduced the speed more clearly at that moment.

A possible punishment for the British would have had a direct impact on the list of results-Verstappen crossed the finish line only 2.3 seconds behind the Mercedes driver. A time penalty against Russell could have given the Dutch third.

Verstappen had tried to push Russell from third place at the end of the race. The red bull star no longer managed to do this and had to be satisfied with four. However, he instructed his team to pursue the suspicion of Russell.

The Red Bull command state later warned the four-time world champion via radio not to have more than five seconds behind the Mercedes. Red Bull speculated with a time penalty against Russell, who missed the official press conference of the best three drivers for health reasons.

In the World Cup ranking, Verstappen already has 32 points behind the World Cup leading Oscar Piatri in the McLaren. The next race will take place in Imola (Italy) in two weeks.
