One of the protagonists of the Moto Guzzi Canottieri died at 97. After the triumphs he became a champions coach
Giuseppe Moioli, rowing legend, gold medal at the London games of London 1948 together with Franco Faggi, Elio Morille and Giovanni Invernizzi died at 97 years old: it was a historical feat with a crew entirely made up of athletes of the Moto Guzzi rowers. He was the oldest blue still alive to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games.

Moioli was born in Mandello Lario (Lecco) on August 8, 1927 and in addition to the Olympic title with the legendary Lecco crew was the protagonist of the rebirth of Italian rowing after the Second World War. Moioli also conquered three European titles (Lucerne 1947, Amsterdam 1949, Milan 1950), two European golds in the “four without” with different crews (Amsterdam 1954 and Bled 1956), and a sixth title in the “Otto” in Poznan in 1958. He had participated in 4 editions of Olympic Games: after the success of London, he still made the four without A Helsinki 1952 1952 1952 (semifinal) and Melbourne 1956 (fourth place) before becoming reserve in Rome 1960. In 2015 he had been awarded with the gold collar by Coni.

After closing his competitive career, the legend of the Moto Guzzi Canottieri had become a coach, with a crucial role in the successes of great athletes such as Piero Poli (gold in Seoul 1988 in the four of the couple), Carlo Mornati (current Secretary General of the Coni, Silver in Sidney 2000 in four without), Carlo Gaddi, Niccolò Mornati, Franco Zucchi, Martino Goretti, Matteo Pinca, Marcello, Marcello Nicoletti and Davide Comini. “Goodbye Great Moioli, you gave your life for rowing and for your boys and for this we will always be grateful to you. Keep looking at us from up there!” It is the greeting of the Cow Moto Guzzi to its legend. And on social networks, tributes have arrived from Canottieri from all over the world.
