Against SC Freiburg, Jonathan Tah played his third last game for Bayer Leverkusen and was on the pitch for the 400th time for the Werkelf. Only five professionals often wore the Rhinelander jersey than the 29 -year -old defender, whose contract expires at the end of the season. In the fanzine “pure conscience”, the vice captain of the Leverkusener commented on his upcoming farewell.
“I will definitely have the opportunity to say something in detail. I am not a man of many words, but of course I would like to thank everyone for the support. I am really grateful for everything from the bottom of my heart. When I sit with my wife at home and we talk about it – the tears come. And so I will probably end up if we have the last home game. That means a lot to me,” said Tah.
At the age of 19, Tah came to Leverkusen from Hamburger SV in summer 2015 for 9.5 million euros. To date, the 35-time international in the top 10 is the most expensive defender in Bayer history. In his 400 missions he scored 17 goals and prepared 13. Tah behind Carsten Ramelow and Stefan Kießling sorted in sixth among the eternal record players of the Leverkuseners-he is still in front of the long-time Bayer captain and today’s managing director Simon Rolfes.
It is not yet known where Tah will go. In the end there were always rumors about moving to FC Barcelona, but the trail seemed to be cooled recently. At FC Bayern, too, those responsible should again discuss the Hamburg -born. Tah had recently put no pressure on his decision: “No to be honest, I don’t have a time window. But the club knows about it. And it is very openly communicated by me all the time.”
