Solveig Vråle actually wanted to relax with her sister in Australia. Instead of idyllic in nature, she was primarily able to see hospital walls.

The Norwegian 800-meter runner Solveig Vråle experienced a horror vacation in Australia last October. The 25-year-old suffered seriously during the trip with her little sister Carolina. The trigger was an inflammation that had appeared after the insertion of a hormone spiral. “I thought that was my last days,” she said her pain in an interview with the Norwegian TV broadcaster NRK.

Already on the outward flight she showed the first symptoms, felt uncomfortable and was completely exhausted on arrival. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, which is why she visited a doctor. This determined a high level of inflammation. Her blood was removed to determine how much C-reactive protein is available. This is a protein that is increasingly formed by the body in the event of inflammation. The normal value is 5mg/l. From a value of 100 one speaks of severe inflammation, Vråles value was 400.

In the hospital, a heavy pelvic infection was found in her, which had probably arisen through the said hormone spiral. According to Vråles, the treating doctors spoke of a rare case.

In addition to the severe pain, loneliness in the hospital was also particularly stressful for her. “I was really scared. It was terrible,” she reported now. After nine days in the hospital and a total of three weeks without training or sporting activity, she returned to Norway.

A heavy setback in the 25-year-old’s career plans. But she doesn’t think of giving up. In addition, Vråle has a clear goal in view: Olympia 2028 in Los Angeles.
