Yuki Tsunoda, Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Pierre Gasly inherited World Cup points in a real punishment orgy during Formula 1 sprint races in Miami. A total of three drivers lost their placements through time penalties, including Oliver Bearman, whose eighth place was revoked.
When changing intermediates to Slicks, the Haas pilot had an “unsafe release”. In the pit lane he was released directly next to Nico Hülkenberg on the Fast Lane, even though the clean driver headed for his own box at that time. According to the report of the racing commissioners, Hülkenberg had to brake and avoid, and Williams mechanic had also been endangered.
“Vehicle #87 was sent in the way of vehicle #27,” says the reason. The result: five seconds of time for Bearman, who fell back from the eighth to 15th place. Instead, Tsunoda inherited the last point, but that was not over. He finally became sixth after further punishments.
Alex Albon and Liam Lawson were also punished after the race. The Williams driver had not followed the prescribed delta during the Safety car phase and also conceded five seconds, which threw it out of the top 10. Particularly bitter for the Thai: it was originally considered fourth.
Lawson saw himself in front
Lawson’s punishment was expected. He was held responsible for the collision with Fernando Alonso, which triggered the safety car. The racing bulls pilot had tried to get past curve 11 on the outside of the inner track for curve 12. This was touched by Aston Martin, who then slipped into the wall.
While Lawson argued that he was at the front at the time of contact at the corner entrance, the stewards saw it differently: he was not entitled to space because his front axle was not in front of Alonso.
The New Zealander received a 5-second penalty and another penalty point on his license-the sixth within twelve months. He fell back to tenth place from the seventh.
In addition to Tsunoda, the confusion of the confusion were also Polesetter Antonelli and Alpine-Pilot Gasly. Both moved into the points through the punishments and ended up seven and eight places.
Tsunoda had already laid the basis for his catch -up hunting on the track: After he started out of the box, he switched to Slicks early and was the first driver to switch to the faster tire. Its pace on the medium tire convinced and forced the entire field to react. This made it possible for him to make a breakthrough into the top 10.
Despite the punishment against Max Verstappen – ten seconds because of an unsafe release against Antonelli – Red Bull is not dot. For Tsunoda, it is the first sprint points in the Red Bull work team.
Most recently, Charles Leclerc was punished: he received a warning because he tried to continue on the Recon-Lap with a damaged car after his accident.
