In October 2023, Kevin Behrens made his debut for the German national team. His career has been rather disappointing since then. Now he will soon be looking for clubs.
Kevin Behrens has no future at VfL Wolfsburg. His contract expiring in the summer is not extended. The Bundesliga club announced this on Wednesday. Behrens has been playing in Wolfsburg since January 2024 and came from Union Berlin for around two million euros. He wasn’t really successful in Lower Saxony. In 31 missions he only scored two goals and prepared two more. Now Behrens has to look for a new club.
The end of the national striker, Behrens had celebrated his debut in the DFB jersey in October 2023, is no surprise. The Wolfsburg striker came into criticism in autumn 2024 after refusing to sign a rainbow jersey at a signing lesson that was intended as a symbol of diversity and tolerance (read more about this.).
According to media reports, he should not have signed the words “I do not sign such a gay shit”. VfL Wolfsburg reacted with an internal fine and a warning that could lead to dismissal in the event of repetition. Behrens publicly apologized for his “absolutely not okay” statements.
