As a result of the suit scandal around the Norwegian team, Andreas Wellinger could subsequently become world champion. But he is not enthusiastic about it.

A subsequent triumph on paper – but without the very big emotions? Such a world championship title would have a bitter aftertaste for ski jumper Andreas Wellinger.

In conversation with Sport1, the 29-year-old said that although he would like to travel to the next World Cup in the jersey of the world champion, but: “All what happens on the ski jump and after that is the drive and my motivation. And that will never be able to give me afterwards.”

At the end of February, Wellinger won the silver medal in the decision by the normal hill in Trondheim. In front of him was the Norwegian Marius Lindvik – but later he got into the center of a suit scandal around the Norwegian team. After the competition on the Großchanze, Lindvik was disqualified and later suspended.

It has so far been open whether the World Association FIS Lindvik and other team members are still punished.

But even in the event of recognition of the title through the FIS, something decisive would be on the track for Wellinger. “What athletes are about is that you jump over the green line and that you see the one light up. It is especially if you can experience the emotions for a placement, a award ceremony, the hymn that can experience pictures,” said Olympic champion Wellinger.
