Mick Schumacher is currently in use at the long-distance World Cup (WEC). But his goal is Formula 1, where he was already under contract.

Mick Schumacher missed the big breakthrough in Formula 1. In the long-distance world championship (WEC), the German now shows solid achievements. His teammate at Alpine, Jules Gounon, commented on Schumacher’s career in the premier class in an interview with “Motorsport-Total.com”.

“I think some things that happened to him were definitely not fair,” said the Frenchman, adding: “Formula 1 is still a shark tank, let’s say, and sometimes it is difficult to understand what exactly happens.” Gounon sees Schumacher as a “potted driver”.

Mick Schumacher rose to Formula 1 with the Haas team for the 2021 season. Previously, he had recommended himself by title winnings in Formula 3 (2018) and Formula 2 (2020). At Haas he was under contract for two years, but despite solid services, but also because of some accidents, could not set sustainable accents – also because of the weak material.

After the end of Haas at the end of the 2022 season, Schumacher did not find a regular cockpit for 2023. He switched to Mercedes as a replacement and test driver, where he supported the team with simulation work. At the same time, he started in the WEC for the Alpine factory team in 2024 to continue his motorsport career.
