The figures show that the share of regional airports in Flemish air freight traffic has fallen sharply. Ostend processed 18,100 tons of freight in 2024, accounting for 2.9% of the market. Kortrijk plays a negligible role in that segment.

Passenger traffic also has a decrease. In Kortrijk-Wevelgem the number of passengers lingers around 9,000 a year. Ostend saw the number of passenger falling back to 352,000 in 2024, a decrease of 9% compared to 2023 and 23% less than in 2019. “The figures prove that the regional airports are less and less relevant in the Flemish aviation landscape,” said Verduyckt.
