A decision has apparently been made in the question about Carlo Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid. The Italian has to go – but probably already has a new job.
At Real Madrid, a change of coach is making a coaching change: According to matching media reports, Carlo Ancelotti will leave the club prematurely. Instead, the Italian is to look after the Brazilian national team until the 2026 World Cup.
According to information from the “The Athletic” portal, Ancelotti has already informed its players in the cabin about his planned farewell. Sky and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also report that the 65-year-old could take over the “Seleção” at the international matches in June. If this occurs, Ancelotti would no longer be used for real at the club World Cup from June 14 to July 13 in the USA.
In the next few hours and days, further discussions should follow to clarify the details of the separation. According to “The Athletic”, a final negotiation with the Brazilian association is planned in the coming week, possibly also the signing of the contract.
Although Ancelotti still has a contract by 2026 at Real, an early separation in view of the sporting setbacks is likely. The quarter-finals in the Champions League and the defeat in the cup final against Barça have weakened its position. Bayer Leverkusen’s coach Xabi Alonso, once a player at Real, is traded as a possible successor. “The Athletic” reports that the Spaniard is in the “pole position”. The first discussions are said to have already existed.
Ancelotti had trained Real Madrid for the first time from 2013 to 2015 and won the Champions League, among other things. He has been in office again since summer 2021 and was able to celebrate two more Champions League titles with the royal.
At the weekend, Ancelotti had explained that a decision would be made in the next few weeks. The sports newspaper “AS” spoke of a deadline and described the next meeting with Barça as an “all-or-not-final”. The duel in the Spanish championship will take place on May 11th. The team of coach Hansi Flick is currently four points in front of Real and heads for the title.
The discussion about Ancelotti’s future was overshadowed by the cup final, in which Antonio Rüdiger saw the red card after a freak. The defender must now expect a long lock.
