Clemens Fritz, Managing Director Professional Ball at SV Werder Bremen, commented on two important personal details at the green and white on Sunday.

It is still unclear whether Werder Bremen will even play internationally in the coming season. Due to the draw against promoted FC St. Pauli on Sunday evening (0-0), however, the green-whites were thrown back a little in their ambitions. Three game days before the end, there are two points behind in 6th place (Conference League), another counter in 5th place (Europa League) and a total of five points in 4th place (Champions League).

Depending on the outcome – especially if Europe is missed – the question may be asked at the Weser in summer whether service providers such as Mitchell Weiser, who has been shown in a top form for weeks, can be held. Does the SVW even have to make money in the event of an event? Werder boss Clemens Fritz does not plan to do that.

“First of all, we have developed a certain legroom in recent years. It is not as if we’re under extreme pressure,” he said at “DAZN” about the financial situation and added: “We can also join the decision.”

Weiser is “a very important player in our squad. Not only on the pitch, but also in the cabin. He is doing very good performances week after week and he is a player who is difficult to defend,” said Fritz, who became clear: “We are planning with Mitchell Weiser in the coming season.”

In addition to Weiser, Fritz also spoke about coach Ole Werner. As is well known, the green-whites want to extend with this, the club announced a few months ago. However, because Werder was still serious at the beginning of the year, the talks were postponed.

Werder Bremen: Fritz refers to sporting opportunities

Now Fritz said about the future of the coach: “We have a very good relationship, are in exchange every day. We consciously sat down in a phase where it didn’t go so well in terms of sport. We said that we pushed everything back.”

So the plan remains, also because Europe is still possible for SVW. “We still have weeks ahead of us, where there is still a lot, which is also nice. Especially when you look into February, where we had phases in Bielefeld, where it was medial that the season was going. For us it was not running and that was the decisive factor,” Freitz felt confirmed.

With a view to the intended extension with Werner beyond 2026, he added: “We will discuss everything else in peace in the next few weeks.”
