The German offensive Lineman Leander Wiegand has made the leap into the NFL for the time being. After the draft, he signed as an undrafted free agent with a team.
The member of the 2025 class of the International Pathway Program, Wiegand, has agreed on a contract with the New York Jets. He signally signally signed for three years, as is common for an Undrafted Free Agent.
Before that, he went through this year’s International Pathway Program, which he completed with a remarkable performance on the Pro Day of the program with 38 repetitions of bench press. This value was well above the best draft prospects at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis/Indiana in spring.
At the jets, Wiegand will now fight for a place in the squad for the coming season. The former offensive tackle will act as a guard and has well-known competitors there with John Simpson and Alijah Vera-Tucker. However, the Depth Chart behind the starters is not exactly prominent.
Jets: competition for Wiegand manageable
With Zack Bailey and Kohl Levao, both of whom have only played two NFL games, he also meets few experienced competitors in the fight for a backup spot. Only Xavier Newman, who has been active in the NFL since 2022, has a little more experience and game practice in this team.
In the event of non-consideration in the final 53 squad, which will only be determined shortly before the start of the season, Wiegand could hope for at least an extra space in the Practice Squad of Jets. Until then, the 25-year-old has plenty of time to recommend himself in the offseason training of the jets and in training camp from the end of July for a permanent place in the squad.
Wiegand most recently played for the Munich Ravens in the European League of Football and was eleven all-star second team, after in 2023 with Rhein Fire Master and eleven all-star first team was elected.
