Werder Bremen threatens to run out of breath in the decisive phase of the Bundesliga season.

The collective storm on the referee after the final whistle of course didn’t help anything. But somewhere the professionals from Werder Bremen had to get rid of their frustration – after four wins in a row, the bacon was 0-0 against robust FC St. Pauli on Sunday a clear mood dampers in the fight for international business. Now that it becomes decisive, Werder could still go out the breath.

“That was far too little, so you can’t win a game,” Bremen’s captain Marco Friedl criticized in the “DAZN” interview. Mitchell Weiser was also “disappointed, because we didn’t use the few options. But you have to do that against St. Pauli – after all, they can also kick.” What does that mean for the European Cup? “No idea.”

In a competitive and quite balanced game, clear chances of scoring remained in short supply. After the setback, Werder is two points behind Borussia Dortmund, which occupies the European Cup place six. “I would be disappointed if we didn’t make it,” said Friedl.

With the next tire performance, St. Pauli held the pressure of the competition in the relegation battle and took another little step towards relegation. The Hamburg’s lead over the 1st FC Heidenheim on the relegation rank is six points. However, Connor Metcalfe saw the yellow-red card (90.+2).

Werder Bremen several times in bad luck

At Werder, during the week, the upcoming departure of Oliver Burke, who had started, had clouded the good atmosphere after four wins in a row. The attacker then found himself on the bench – Justin Njinmah moved into the starting eleven for the Scots, but the first chance had wing players Mitchell Weiser (4th).

St Pauli, due to the victories of the competitors on Saturday again, got into greater risk of relegation, also registered shortly afterwards.

Philipp Faith failed after a great combination to Werder keeper Michael Zetterer (8th). Afterwards, however, the game slaughtered in the Weser Stadium in a spring -like feel -good atmosphere.

The most recently self -confident St. Pauli had more possession of the ball after strong performance and a tie against Master Bayer Leverkusen, but acted too harmless, like the disappointing hosts. Consequently, the break remained with a difficult to digest – also because both teams were denied a goal due to a clear offside position.

Werder had recently won eight games in a row against St. Pauli and finally gave an idea after the change of sides, why. Niklas strongly caused the game’s best chance until then, but failed due to the strong Nikola Vasilj (49th), as well as Njinmah in his shot nine minutes later.

The Bremen tore the game itself, but lacked efficiency. Substitute Burke met (79th), but this time it was offside.
