Be surprised

At an apartment on the first Stationsstraat there is a banner on the balcony with the text ‘Here you can pee, be surprised’. A girl plays the Wilhelmus on her recorder, and a little further on you can overthrow cans of 50 cents cans. For a few houses there are waste bins where people can throw their empty plastic bottles and cans. Good action, because it keeps the streets clean and the deposit yields something!

Handmade lamp

On the rug market it is full of children’s books, hugs, clothing, jewelry, games and gramophone records. The real tracks know how to pop up the most beautiful pearls. From lamps to electrically controlled cars, and from a sports bike to a trendy plant basket. Similarly Irma from Assen who walks on the street with a white lampshade. “I am visiting my sister and saw this handmade lamp. I bought it because I feel that the lamp belongs to me.”

Not always success

There is a box with 5000 puzzle pieces on one of the rugs. “I don’t lose it,” says the seller. “Maybe the amount of pieces scares people off?” A little further on, Dennis is sitting on a folding chair in front of his rug in the sun. He has a long, blue vase for himself. “I got a friend’s vase,” he says. “He has been in several places in the house, so I really did my best for it. But I don’t know what to do with that thing. Do you want to buy it?”
