Frankfurt is getting closer to the qualification for the Champions League. In the Bundesliga leading duel, the SGE Leipzig played in the ground.
Eintracht Frankfurt won the top game of the 31st Bundesliga match day. The Hessen, which was third in the table, won 4: 0 against pursuer RB Leipzig.
The goals scored Ansgar Knauff (21st/53rd minute), Hugo Ekitiké (67th) and Robin Koch (71.). Leipzig’s El Chadaille Betshiabu saw the red card in the 50th minute.
With 55 points, Frankfurt continues to rank third behind FC Bayern and the still reigning German champion from Leverkusen. Leipzig follows two places behind with six points.
At first, great enthusiasm did not want to arise: Instead of a fast -paced game, the 56,500 spectators in Frankfurt at the beginning experienced a careful scanning of both teams. The first noteworthy campaign went to the guests’ account when RB striker Benjamin Šeško tested with a distance shot of Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. This could not hold the ball, but clarified the corner.
The offensive of the Eintracht was long in coming. After around 20 minutes, the home side then hit ice cold: After a quick counterattack, Ekitiké prevailed in the dribbling and put on Knauff, who scored the lead.
With the 1-0 in the back, Eintracht acted much more confidently. Frankfurt took control and took several good chances before the break to expand the lead. In the 24th minute, Tuta failed with a massive header on RB keeper Maarten Vandevoordt, who represented the injured tram goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi.
Shortly before half -time, Bitshiabu had to clarify for RB in the greatest need when he blocked a shot from Knauff with his leg (40th). Leipzig remained largely harmless.
After the change of sides, the situation for the guests tightened. Bitshiabu was the last man Knauff brought down shortly before the penalty area and saw the red card. And it came even bitter for the Leipzig: Vandevoordt’s subsequent free kick from Arthur Theat could not hold on, so Knauff used the rebound to 2-0.
From then on, Eintracht clearly dominated, while RB Leipzig disappointed across the board. Ekitiké and Koch finally brought more goals and earned an evening that the Saxons wanted to forget quickly.
