Matteo loses the first set to the tie break and wins the second in the same way. On the third before you hurt, then the opponent dominates. Luciano, on the other hand, gives a flat rate against Tiafoe
Matteo Berrettini wins with his heart and with the determination to his debut at Madrid’s ATP 1000, but it is alarm, once again, for his physical condition. The Roman had the best 6-7 (3) 7-6 (6) 6-1 on the American Marc Giron, beaten for the first time in his career, but between the end of the second set and the beginning of the third was forced to a long medical time out for a physical problem, probably in the abdominals, those cursed abdominals that have made him suffer in his career. Matteo, however, did not give up, reacted great, taking home the third set. Now the challenge to Jack Draper, series head number 5 of the tournament, waiting for updates on his physical condition. A game that Berrettini could close before. In the first set, it wasted five break balls, three of which were set point on 5-4 in his favor and group service. All wasted occasions of the Roman, who had not granted any opportunity to the American before the tie break. In Giron, however, the first set point and Matteo’s first moment of weakness was enough during the set to conquer the partial. In the second set it was practically not played on the service, kept great by both (nobody had to resort to the advantages, except Berrettini on the 6-5 Giron), with an inevitable second tie break. Berrettini had two other sets Points, wasted, Siul 6-4, but when the game seemed to be bewitched, finally, the decisive minibreak arrived, with the 8-6 final that earned Matteo the second set. And here the great fear. Matteo calls the Medical Time Out, he gets cured, with the game that seemed lost, since the Roman, getting up, limited a little. Wrong. With a reaction all hearts and nerves, Berrettini dominated the partial, while serving at an average of 175 kilometers per hour (in the first set it was 208 km/h), taking the game at home. Physical problems also for Luciano Darderi, hit by a virus that did not allow him to give his best against Frances Tiafoe. The Argentine Italo retired in the second set, when it was under 7-5 3-1.
