In the second round of the NFL Draft 2025, the Baltimore Ravens selected the Edge Rusher Mike Green 59. In the past, the 21-year-old was accused twice of sexual coercion. General Manager Eric Decosta explained why they still decided on the Marshall defender.

“Of course we know how serious these accusations were,” emphasized the 54-year-old at the press conference after day two of the draft in Green Bay: “But we fulfilled our diligence and are satisfied with Mike. I think the best comes with him. I am glad that we have him.”

The Ravens had “collected as much information as we could,” said Decosta. “We checked the facts and the allegations. We took into account what the reports actually gave and what not. Then we made the decision on this basis.” You “did a good job,” said the GM.

“We spoke to Mike in detail, we did our own work behind the scenes and looked at all the different things, and we felt comfortable to take him,” he said. Green had previously resisted the allegations of sexual coercion in the run -up to the draft.

Green defended himself against draft against allegations

“I have no problem talking to the teams about it because I know who I am and I know the truth,” he had emphasized. At times at the high school, he was accused of sexual assault. In 2022, as a student at the University of Virginia, he was once again faced with such allegations.

Virginia then suspended him, Green used this to switch to Marshall: “After I was suspended, I wanted to start a fresh start. I wanted to go somewhere where I could create a basis for the NFL. It was just accusations that made me.”

The local police have now discontinued the investigation into the case of three years ago. Details on the allegations are not known. Nevertheless, they ensured that the talent slipped deeply on the Drafts Board. From a purely sporting point of view, the quarterback hunter would have been a safe first-round pick.
