Uli Hoeneß decisively depends on whether FC Bayern’s wish transfer will succeed with Florian Wirtz. It is not the first time that the fate of the record champions on Lake Tegernsee is decided.
Fernando Carro didn’t say much when he was asked about Florian Wirtz on Monday on the edge of the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid on the offensive and public advertising of FC Bayern. What the managing director of Bayer Leverkusen said was tough. “It’s really a show, that doesn’t matter to me. He undoubtedly sent this verbal tip, which Carro allowed himself to do so. But she also met and above all almost 50 kilometers further south – in Bad Wiessee. Exactly where Bavaria’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß lives on the west bank of Lake Tegernsee.
After all, it was Hoeneß who had triggered and fueled the persistent and increasing speculation around Wirtz at the beginning of February with his statements in the T-online interview. “He is certainly a player that we shouldn’t let out,” said Hoeneß to T-Online at the time. “If I can have a dream, I would say that Florian Wirtz has to go to FC Bayern.”

Afterwards, all those responsible for the record champions were then prompted themselves to publicly comment on the Wirtz personnel and at least to allow their club patron to at least allow this big dream to their club patron. The long-time CEO of Bavaria, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who, like Hoeneß, is now sitting on the mighty Supervisory Board, went a little further.
“Uli said Wirtz was his dream – and that was still politely put. Everyone at FC Bayern agrees that he is exactly the player we want to get,” said Rummenigge in early March of the “evening newspaper”.
At the latest with this, Rummenigge finally made it clear that the obligation of Wirtz Bayern’s transfer goal number one is – and already this summer. Sky expert Lothar Matthäus said to T-Online almost two weeks ago: “Uli Hoeneß wishes that. And Uli Hoeneß actually fulfills all the wishes at Bayern.”
In the T-Online interview, Hoeneß had replied to the specific question of what role he would play in a possible Wirtz transfer: “In general, the following applies: not the manager, not the honorary president or the Vice President gets a player, but FC Bayern. If you make your contribution there, you shouldn’t play a role. “
With this, Hoeneß, at least between the lines, already showed that he plays a very decisive role even with this desired transfer of Bayern – and not just as a string puller in the background.
Matthäus now spoke out what at least insiders already knew: “So Uli has been in contact with the Wirtz family for a long time. It’s no secret. The father Wirtz has already been visiting the Tegernsee one time or another. And that’s why the contacts exist.”
For over five years. Even before Wirtz ‘change from 1,1th FC Köln to Leverkusen, Hoeneß received his mother Karin and father Hans, who also represented his son as a consultant, at home on Lake Tegernsee. The contact has never been torn down, in the past few months there have been further meetings in Bad Wiessee.
In the February interview, Hoeneß emphasized: “At the moment I have been more in day-to-day business than ever since I resigned as president in 2019. I am trying to leave the things of the current leadership.”
