Only one victory separates the volleyball players from SSC Schwerin from winning the first championship title since 2010. On Saturday against Dresden it can be ready. Success guarantee is an 18 -year -old foreign attacker with a big name.
When the second game of the final series (“Best of Five”) ended in Dresden on Wednesday evening, one of the Schwerin players was particularly beaming: Leana Grozer not only crowned her 18th birthday with the victory and another step towards the championship – as well as in the first final game, she got the Golden MVP medal as the best player in the evening.
The outdoor attacker had 14 points, four aces and two blocks for a clear 3: 0 (25:21, 25:20, 25:15) success of the SSC – the championship title is within reach. “We are so hyped and will give everything to celebrate this victory at home,” the 18-year-old already looked forward to the upcoming third game against Dresdner SC on Saturday (5:15 p.m.) in Schwerin.
After the two clear victories, the SSC goes into the third encounter with a lot of tailwind. Captain Anne Hölzig still tries to slow down the euphoria a little: “Sure, we have a home game and our fans in the back, but everything is open – like in any other game.”
Grozer: Key player On the way to the title
But it is also clear: shows Grozer, who had switched from the federal base in Stuttgart to SSC in the summer of 2023 and signed her first professional contract there, a service similar to that in the first two finalduelles, should hardly stand anything in the way of the longed -for 13th Schwerin championship title.
The youngster has developed into a key player in the team of coach Felix Koslowski within a very short time and is likely to go a successful way. For now in Schwerin: Last week, she extended her contract with the Mecklenburg women.
Papa Georg is already pulling his hat off
The passion for volleyball was put in Leana Grozer. Papa Georg is the star player of the German national team. Grandpa Georg Grozer Senior also smashed in the Hungarian and German national team.
“If you look at how she plays, how much emotions and heart, you can see the genes,” said Georg Junior, who was sitting on the stands last week in the first game in Schwerin in the yellow SSC jersey. At the same time, he was impressed by the performance of his daughter: at this age “playing in a final – hat off,” said the 40 -year -old, who celebrated numerous title winnings even in his long career and was awarded for the seventh as a volleyball player of the year in December last year.
Daughter Leana can now continue the successful family tradition with her first title. And the 18-year-old would have a bit ahead of father and grandfather: they were well over 20 years old with their first title winners …
