“We left images about the ‘Lazie Waal’, to say it very briefly,” says Devos. “We have linked those images to perceptions about productivity and willingness to collaborate. This shows that Walloon candidates consistently score lower on those perceptions than Flemish.”

The study also shows that many employers use negative assumptions based on the language region of applicants. “Flemish employers seem to have all these stereotype images about Walloon candidates,” said Devos.
