According to the paramilitary authors of the carnage, in 2002 Lucho (a hero in Colombia) paid them to kidnap and kill the victims, making it believe that they were guerrillas
Lucho Herrera, 64 -year -old former Colombian cyclist winner of Vuelta 1987 and two times first in the ranking of the climbers at the Tour de France, is accused of ordering the murder of four neighbors in 2002 to appropriate their land. As reported by the newspaper El reporter, two former paramilitaries testified that Herrera paid them to kidnap and kill the victims, passing them off as guerrillas. The four were slaughtered and torn to pieces and only later the assassins would discover the deception hatched by the former cyclist.

Luis Fernando Gómez Flórez, one of the paramilitaries, was sentenced on April 7 after admitting his responsibility, however accusing Herrera of having paid an important sum: “They ordered us to procure what Mr. Lucho needed, so we visited him. He gave us two envelopes: in one there were the photos of four people we had to take, he said they were Miliziani del Guerriglia. who wanted to kidnap it; in the other envelope there were 40 million pesos (just over 81,000 euros at the current change, editor’s note) and asked us if we wanted to buy pistols and bikes. The families of the victims invoke speed in the investigation against Herrera, who in Colombia is considered a real hero. Herrera declared himself innocent: “I am not involved in these facts. I will turn to the media in debt time and consult my lawyer to introduce myself to the prosecutor,” he said to W radio. It should be noted that Lucho in May 2014 was kidnapped (and then released) by the Farc, the notorious Colombian revolutionary group.
