The Go Ahead Eagles Deventer secured the Dutch trophy. They had to wait half an eternity for a title.

What a final: The Go Ahead Eagles Deventer wrote history and secured the Dutch trophy for the first time. In the final, they prevailed 4-2 in a penalty shootout against AZ from Alkmaar on Easter Monday. After 120 minutes it was 1-1.

Az determined the game for long distances, but a penalty was needed for the lead: Troy Parrott initially failed from the point to Deventer keeper Jari de Buser, but was allowed to start again because of a violation of the goal. De Buser had left the line too early. Parrot then converted in the second attempt (54th).

However, Deventer did not give up. Two good chances by Sören Tengstedt (82nd) and Oscar Pettersson (90.+6) initially remained unused. In injury time then the redemption: After a handball by AZ professional Teun Koopmeiners in the penalty area, Mats Deijl equalized by penalty (90.+9).

After a goalless extension, we went into the penalty shootout. There, goalkeeper de Buser finally became the decisive factor. With two penalties held, he secured his club the cup victory.

For Deventer it was the first title after a 92 -year dry spell. The club had last won a trophy in 1933, at that time the Dutch championship.
